Please remember your water bottles, sun hats and sun cream in this warm weather!

Home Learning

At Stanbridge Lower School, regular homework is set for pupils to reinforce and extend learning, particularly in phonics, reading and Maths. Please see below for an overview of the homework set and click here to see the full Homework-Policy.

If any child finds completing homework tricky or experience problems with their homework, please speak with your class teacher who can adjust the homework routine accordingly and offer support to you and your child.

Reading Support for Parents

We follow the Little Wandle Scheme for teaching children to read.  We send home two books for your child to read and enjoy.

  • Big Cat books is the reading practice book. This will be at the correct phonic stage for your child.  Children should be able to read this fluently and independently.
  • A library book chosen by your child.  Your child may not be able to read this on their own. This book is for you both to read and enjoy together.

The link below shares resources for parents to support with phonics. There are also some useful videos, so you can see how the graphemes sound and feel confident about supporting your child’s reading at home.
