History

‘You have to know the past to understand the present.’

– Carl Sagan (astronomer)

History teaching at Stanbridge Lower is delivered in line with National Curriculum requirements and supported by termly topics from the Cornerstones Curriculum. Children develop an awareness of the past, using common words and phrases relating to the passing of time. They also begin to build their sense of chronology as they investigate significant events and people from the past and learn to recognise similarities and differences with their own experiences and the present time. In addition, artefacts, visits and project weeks are used to support children’s enjoyment and understanding.

Please see below for an overview of the units taught, the national curriculum coverage and the progression between Year 1-4.
